About Me:
I'm a novelist, music journalist (for The Independent), biographer, playwright and blogger. I live in London and my husband is a violinist in the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

My British-Hungarian story:
My third novel is called HUNGARIAN DANCES and is published by Hodder and Stoughton. I'm not Hungarian, but rather wish I was. When asked what my connection is to Hungary, all I can say is that I love the music, the place, the food and the people. Writing my book has involved a long and fascinating voyage of discovery - physically, mentally and spiritually. I am very grateful to the BHF for organising my book launch! I am also thrilled that the virtuoso violinist Philippe Graffin has released a CD, likewise called 'Hungarian Dances', as a companion to my novel, on the Onyx Classics label.

HUNGARIAN DANCES

HUNGARIAN DANCES by Jessica Duchen will be published by Hodder & Stoughton on 6 March 2008

Hungarian Dances is a love story, a mystery and a tale of extraordinary personal transformation.

When disaster befalls her best friend, Karina, a young Anglo-Hungarian musician, feels compelled to question the very foundations of her existence. Her discoveries about her Hungarian family background and her Gypsy ancestry will change her life forever. Past and present collide in the intertwining stories of Karina and her grandmother, Mimi, a famous violinist. Love and loss, displacement and continuity mingle in a moving panorama that crosses eighty years and is permeated by the family’s one constant: the sound of the violin.
