This site still uses the default icon (an orange square - you can see it on the sign-in screen).
I was thinking about making an icon from the two flags, then I thought that was a bit too obvious. Would a Crown of Saint Stephen over a large tea-pot be too frivolous?
As no-one else has responded yet, I thought I'd start the ball rolling. Personally, I like the crown and teapot - it says it all! It's friendly as well as quirkly. (I was wondering whether there might be some mileage in the shared icon of St George, but the dragon could be a little fierce and the St George's flag just makes me think of white van drivers...)
It seems to me that the crown plus teapot is a bit unbalanced. Surely it should either be (a) St. Stephen's Crown plus British Imperial Crown or (b) teapot plus say tradional Hungarian peasant flat round drinking flask. Alternatives I would suggest are
- the most potent symbol of British-Hungarian joint efforts is the Lánchíd, although I admit this is used all over the place
- a picture of Macartney - I would anyway like to see this on the site even if it is not as an icon
Yes, I can see that the crown plus teapot is in some way unbalanced. The Lánchíd would be good somewhere, but I can't see any way of squeezing it into the size of an icon while still being recognisable.
Does anyone have any better ideas, or even better, samples? I could create a Hall of Fame on our front page to give praise and credit to anyone who demonstrates their British-Hungarian creativity by sending in a suitable icon!
